Being Green is not just about changing light bulbs and recycling paper. For integrators it requires a studied approach that explains how companies whose products added to a residences' carbon footprint, can now be a meaningful provider of services that show people how to enjoy their lives using less. We feel this was an important point to address in developing our new offerings. Towards this end we developed an approach that is tiered and will allow our customers to begin a process of lifestyle change with specific tools and a strategy. We tailored our services as consultative and clearly indicative of how we can legitimately leverage our previous expertise.
We start with looking at how we can specifically change our "Control” objectives to minimize the carbon footprint and water consumption of a home. This requires significant consideration by the home owner. From there we look at how "Performance” objectives could change from the biggest and brightest to least consumptive. Last we review how our products are "Manufacture”(d) and only support those suppliers with meaningful efforts towards zero impact manufacturing.
Needless to say at our offices we use florescent lights, recycle and carpool crews but taking our Control/Performance/Manufacture approach in-house looked like this: At our facilities we established new Control Criteria that minimized our overall consumption to a minimum. As a result of our Control Review we reduced showroom hours and left many rooms dark until specifically requested. Making a contest over reducing our utilities also went a long way. We next considered what Performance compromises we were willing to sacrifice. This resulted in going to a staggered four day week and a plan to replace our fleet with hybrids. Last, regarding Manufacture, we now make an environmental review of all our purchases with the same weighting we use to apply to pricing. We're especially sensitive to how transparent suppliers are about their green policies.
